With prom season finally here, I wanted to showcase some of our favorite styles to inspire your hair and makeup for the big day! Prom is such a special and important day, and one you will remember for the rest of your life. Of course, everyone wants their hair and makeup to be perfect, but it’s hard to know where to start if you have short or textured hair. We got together with our amazing team of professional hair and makeup artists to make this “lookbook” blog for you!
-Braided, beachy waves: If you have short hair, you may be wondering how to make it look more dressy and formal. This style is perfect; with texture and wave added (you could use a three barrel iron for these types of waves), and a tiny dutch braid, it will go perfectly with a bright and unique dress. you can also add in mini accessories like these flowers for an added touch.
Sleek, modern straight: If you want something different from curls, or if your hair struggles to hold curls for very long, this is the style for you. The secret is clean, slick, and straight hair (use a straightener if needed), and it works well for fine hair as well. Short to medium hair works best for this style, paired with light but glamorous makeup (pretty mascara and a neutral lip).
Vintage glam: This is a twist on Old Hollywood style, but with a softer look. To get this look, curl your hair and brush through the curls with your fingers to soften them up. Works well for medium length hair. Once curled, pin one side back (add a sparkly bobby pin if you have one!).
Soft, romantic chignon: If you have a dress with a pretty boatneck like the one below, this is an ideal style as it will show off your cheekbones and any jewelry you may add. This style works best for medium hair with natural curls. Embrace the curls with a little product, and create this soft shape by pulling the hair back from your face with bobby pins and twists secured to the back of your head.
Classic glam: This is a very classic look that will work for almost any medium to long hair type. If you have naturally curly hair, consider curling the top layer with an iron or wand to achieve more polished curls. Add classic winged eyeliner, and false lashes for a very glamorous look, and pair with soft, boho braids on either side of your head.
Short and simple: If you have medium length hair with texture, this style with a middle part is very easy to do. Let your hair dry naturally, go over it with a medium barrel wand, and add a serum to smooth everything out. A middle part is soft and elegant, and can be paired with dramatic makeup and false lashes to draw attention to your eyes.
Well, hello there my friend. You look amazing. Why thank you, so do you! Classic smokey with long loose curls: The quintessential prom look! This look never goes out of style, for those of you with long hair. It works best with medium to heavily textured hair in order to hold the curls in place. Pull the hair half up with an added braid, and secure in place. Pull pieces out around your face, and curl them softly to add some movement to the style. Smokey makeup will round out this picture perfect look!
Happy prom season!
