One of my favorite things to see when new clients come into my studio in Uptown Phoenix is the look on their faces when I show them my decked-out style closet! I’ll admit that I love that I have a reason to shop, and this closet is filled with some amazing outfits, shoes, and accessories that are completely free for seniors to borrow for their sessions. This is such a fun part of the process we go through before your session when we meet, pulling out swirly dresses, gorgeous gowns, and trending pieces that I know will look great on them and in photos! All of the clothing in the below photos are from my clients taken during their session with pieces from my closet.
Not every professional photographer will offer a client closet, but I’ve been told over and over by past clients that it was one of their favorite parts of getting ready for the session. Besides getting to try on outfits that they love, it also allows me to make suggestions on flattering clothing in photos that you might not have tried on if it was just you in a department store.
Buying clothing for a session can be fun, but it’s also time-consuming and costly. If you’re not a person who loves to shop for clothes, the closet is the perfect place to find great clothing to wear for your session. You don’t have to worry about what will look good, what is trending, or spend money on shoes you know you probably won’t wear often (or ever again). Just go “shopping” in my stylish closet!
Luckily for me, I have my very own in-home “stylists” (my teenage daughters), and I often get inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest. I’ve always loved keeping up with current styles, as I see fashion as another expression of art. The client closet has all sorts of styles, from vintage to boho to classic looks, so there is honestly something for everyone. I also have jewelry, shoes, belts, scarves, and hats to accessorize outfits.
This is a body inclusive studio! The client closet has clothing for all body shapes and types; I always make sure to purchase a wide range of outfits in various sizes. If you have clothing items that you love, bring them along, and sometimes we can mix and match them to make great outfits that you wouldn’t have had in your own closet.
While I try not to adhere to too many “rules” when it comes to fashion, some clothes definitely photograph better than others. We also have to consider where your photos are going to be and what time of year it is. Colors that mimic the color in nature are great for outdoor photos, and a sequined dress can really sparkle for in-studio photos.
A few weeks before your session, I ask seniors and a parent to come in for the style session, and this is when the magic happens for clothing choices. During your in-person consultation before your session, we’ll go over everything and form a plan together for outfits you feel comfortable in that look great on camera. You’ll have time to look at photos of other seniors that have worn similar styles so you can see if it’s a look you love and view canvas photos and albums from previous sessions.
I have several different kinds of senior sessions; you can find more information here. Or, just call the studio at 623.341.0553, and I’m happy to help you choose the session that is right for you!
