When I meet with my seniors for their planning session, I always ask what they envision for the look and feel for their big day. Annie was very clear in her vision for her Senior Portraits! She wanted fun, bright colors and bold backgrounds. Sometimes those bright colors can be added in with a mix of flowers or architecture but for this session we brought in the rich bright colors of Old Town Scottsdale. From the in bloom flowers to the fun colorful walls and murals, I think we did a great job matching Annie’s vision! She also did a great job with her clothing, mixing classic denim with beautiful blues and greens. And lastly, we finished off the day with her NAU tee to celebrate her commitment to the school and her plan to continue her swim career.
Doesn’t this look like a beautiful sunny afternoon? Well, it was actually in the middle of August and early morning! Since I shoot mostly just before Golden hour in the late afternoon this was a fun break for me and also required a little different take on the location. The sun was in a very different position and we still wanted that backlit goodness of golden hour. I love the challenge of finding ways to make it all work together! Shooting early morning allowed us to escape the crazy heat of Arizona summer afternoons but also gave us enough light to stay true to what Annie wanted her images to look like. The sunny colorful background was perfect for her playful, fun personality. Because really, as much as I love the serious looks, the squishy nose laughs are my FAVORITE!
