What is better than one amazing senior? TWO! I feel so lucky to have had a set of twins on my recent senior team. This is Maddie, one half of the dynamic duo (you’ll get to meet her sister next week on the blog), from Xavier College Preparatory School. She has a huge heart for helping others, and it shines through in her whole life…from the moment she introduces herself, you can tell her priorities are so others-centered. She is such a breathe of fresh air. Her biggest accomplishment so far in high school has been traveling to Nicaragua to help build schools for underprivileged children. “I went for 10 days with my school, and we got to play fútbol with the kids, and interact with them”, she explains, “We helped paint the school and create irrigation canals so the water wouldn’t flood the school, while always learning about their country. We visited many amazing places, and it really opened my eyes to this part of the world. Helping people is not just something you should be forced to do, it should be something you have fun with and enjoy.” I am proud of her heart, and was so impressed with her articulate and wise words.
She has also been a member of the badminton team since freshman year, and has won two state championships with her team. “My best friends would describe me as dorky and amusing”, she laughs, “I am very fun and silly, and I am not afraid to show people who I am! I love cracking jokes with my friends, and hearing funny stories! Being around people who make me smile is my favorite, and those people are my friends and family.” She lights up when she talks about her friends and family, and explains that they are her true support system and encouragement to be “the best person I can be”. She is a very fun and outgoing personality, and that translates to her wardrobe, which is casual and stylish. She included a few eclectic pieces too, which helped show off her adorable spunk. “What makes me feel beautiful?”, she mused, “I would say it is being in the great outdoors. Smelling the clean air makes me feel clean and beautiful, like the nature I am in”. Maddie is full of laughter, and our session was too! I was sad when our session together came to an end, because I could have stayed around her spirit for a few more days! I feel so blessed to have had her on my senior team. Thank you, Maddie!
