Graduation is the culmination of so much hard work! It’s always my goal to help the seniors I work with celebrate their accomplishments with a shoot that shows off their biggest wins! Maya graduated this year and was a member of my senior team for the Class of 2019. She is an avid swimmer with a long list of accolades, and she wanted to capture the importance of the sport in her life (since she was six!). “I’ve had many accomplishments in high school, but the biggest would be my swimming career”, she explained, “I was scared to swim on the high school team when I was a freshman, because the other kids were older than me, but I managed to keep it up, and even made it to state that first year. I was so surprised and excited at the same time!” We did some of these images at the Phoenix Swim Club, where we were able to showcase her prowess in the pool.
Besides being a club swimmer for man years, she also is part of the Sunnyslope High School swim and dive team. As far as other school activities, she also is part of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, and she volunteers for the Workshop for Youth and Families. The Workshop is a non-profit organization that works with youth and their families to build resiliency and coping skills, and help nurture health relationships, and it’s something very important to her heart. Maya’s friends describe her as loyal and funny, and add that she’s always the first to show up when they need a laugh or a shoulder to cry on. “I wanted to be part of Sandi’s team this past year, because it was an opportunity to get closer to other girls and have fun doing something that we all had in common…it came down to not wanting to miss out on the fun!”, she adds.
I am so excited to see where she brings her sweet spirit next…with that incredible determination, I know it will be somewhere amazing!
