One of the questions that comes up often when talking to seniors and their parents about senior photos is how much editing I do to the photos after the session. This is a really great question and one I think is essential to ask any photographer you are considering for your important senior photos in Phoenix.
One of the reasons I do a pre-session consultation here in my studio is that we can go over each step of the photo process. Getting your senior photos done is so much more than just the session itself!
When you come in to talk about all the where’s and why’s of your session, we’ll also discuss editing and my approach. I’ll show you exactly how editing your photos can make a big difference to the outcome of the image.
For many years I’ve included professional hair and makeup in my senior photography packages because I know it makes a huge difference to the senior’s experience. These are milestone photos, and that little bit of pampering and attention to detail is so well deserved after all their hard work in high school!
This experience aims to give the senior confidence, make them feel fantastic, and help even out skin tones and enhance features. Read more about Why I Include Professional Hair and Makeup in Your Session.
In my studio, we pay careful attention to what your skin tone should look like. We don’t want you to look pale or ashy, and we certainly don’t want you to have a fake “orange glow.”
There are endless variations in skin tones, from very olive complexions to those with pink undertones. I take this into account when we edit your photos so that your skin tone will look natural and flattering in your final images.
What does it mean to have the right amount of “pop”? In terms of editing, it means that your photos will look fabulous without looking fake or overdone. The colors will be bright and vibrant without being neon, and the skin tones will be even and natural.
The right amount of “pop” is different for everyone, but it is something that we can achieve together in your final images.
Your photos should reflect your personal style, whether that is classic and timeless or trendy and modern. I take the time to get to know you before your session so that I can help you choose the right wardrobe and location to achieve the look you are going for.
During your post-session ordering appointment, we will go over all of the edited images from your session and decide which ones best reflect your style.
I’m also a big fan of using light and shadows to create a more flattering image. I often use light to help fill in any areas that may be shadowed and to highlight features that I want to draw attention to.
This is the advantage of hiring a professional photographer trained to look for every advantage to make you look great!
The right light can work magic, softening skin and bringing out detail in your eyes. When I’m working with the senior during the photo session, I pay careful attention to the light at all times!
The photos on my website and social media are edited in my signature style of clean colors and true-to-life skin tones. All skin has texture, and it’s not the goal to give everyone an unrealistic filtered look. Instead, we aim to make the skin look healthy and vibrant, evening out blemishes that are temporary and enhancing features.
My editing style is all about keeping your photos looking natural while still making you look your best. I don’t believe in drastically altering someone’s appearance but rather in subtle changes that can make a big difference. These photos will be displayed on walls and in albums for years to come!
One of the things I hear the most from my seniors is how much they love their photos and how surprised they are at how good they look. This is a testament to my fabulous makeup artists, my editing style, and the importance of working with a professional who knows how to make you look your best.
If you’re interested in learning more about my editing style, or if you have any questions about what to expect from your session, I encourage you to contact me. I would be happy to chat with you about your senior photos and answer any questions you have!
