As a headshot and branding photographer, I hear from entrepreneurs all the time who say they only need one headshot. They may be thinking that a single headshot will be enough for their website, social media, and marketing materials. However, I believe that entrepreneurs need multiple headshots in order to best represent their brand and reach their target audience.
Here are a few reasons why:
- Different headshots for different purposes. A headshot for your website is likely to be different from a headshot for your social media or LinkedIn profile. You may also want different headshots for different marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, and email newsletters.
- Different headshots to show your personality. A single headshot may not be enough to capture all of the different facets of your personality. You may want to have a few different headshots that show you in different moods and settings. For example, you may want a headshot that shows you looking professional and confident, as well as a headshot that shows you looking more relaxed and approachable.
- Different headshots to appeal to different audiences. Your target audience may be diverse, and you may want to have different headshots that appeal to different segments of your audience. For example, if you work with both corporate clients and individual clients, you may want to have a headshot that shows you dressed in business attire and a headshot that shows you dressed in more casual attire.
- Having professional photos will pay for themselves. Several of my clients have told me that they booked more clients when they started using photos from their headshot session.
- Your social media will improve! Not only will you have great content to post, but think about when you get the most action on your social media…for most people, it’s when they change out their profile photo. With a package of 12 photos, they can swap it out once a month for an entire year.
- People will stay on your website longer. When your website looks professional and fresh, people are much more likely to stay longer. We only have a few seconds (if that) to capture someone’s attention and photos are a great way to do that!
In addition to these reasons, having multiple headshots can also help you to stay up-to-date on your branding. As your business grows and evolves, your branding may change as well. Having multiple headshots gives you the flexibility to choose the headshots that best represent your business at any given time.
Here are a few tips for choosing the right headshots for your business:
- Consider your target audience. Who are you trying to reach with your headshots? What kind of image do you want to project?
- Think about your brand personality. What are the core values of your brand? What kind of mood or feeling do you want your headshots to evoke?
- Choose headshots that are professional and high-quality. Your headshots should be well-lit and well-composed. You should also make sure that your headshots are properly sized and formatted for the different places where you will be using them.
- Consider the platform. Sizing for Facebook or websites is different than for Instagram. Having a mix of horizontal and vertical images can help make the design process easier for marketing materials for print and social media.
